Work together to put on an original play! Join 1 or more sessions in Sandcastle’s 3-part series - when kids develop their creative voice, self-confidence, and collaboration skills.

Students will learn how improvisation helps build stories and characters, how playwrights write an original play, and actors prepare to perform in front of an audience, incorporating production design elements, as they work toward their unique final show.

2nd-5th grade

Improv (I): Say “yes, and” to a fun session of improvisation and drama games. Curriculum introduces students to the fundamentals of storytelling and character, while strengthening key social-emotional skills and creativity that helps kids thrive on and off stage.

Storytelling & Character (II): Students learn about ensemble and storytelling to write a NEW script. Students dig into acting and rehearsal techniques to embody unique characters onstage (culminates in staged reading)

Design & Production (III): Learn about putting on a final show! Students rehearse an original script, create unique designs (costumes, props, scenery, sound), focus on memorization, and put it all together for a fully produced final show.

Summer 2026 classes

Class Description

Work together to write, create and perform an original short play, based on a popular Fairy Tale! Through drama games and activities kids develop their creative voice, self-confidence, and collaboration skills.

Kids will get hands-on instruction in story-creation, character-development, acting, design, and production. This unique program guides kids through the theater-making process and provides Drama education in an accessible, fun, and supportive way.

The session culminates with an invited staged reading of the new play.
